Blondie is an American rock band which was founded by singer Deborah Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The group was a pioneer in the American new wave and punk scenes of the mid-1970s. Blondie was successful in the UK and Australia, but regarded as an underground band in the States until the release of Parallel Lines in 1978. The next three years saw the band achieve achieve several hit singles including 'Call Me', 'Atomic' and 'Heart of Glass'. They retained their style as a new wave band but also became noted for an eclectic mix of musical styles including elements of disco and reggae.
Blondie broke up in 1982 but Deborah Harry continued to pursue a solo career. She also took a few years off to care for her partner Chris Stein, who was diagnosed with pemphigus, a rare autoimmune disease of the skin.
Blondie reformed in 1997, achieving renewed success and a number one single in the UK with 'Maria' in 1999.
The group has since toured throughout the world and is still active today. Their ninth studio album, 'Panic of Girls', was released in 2011, with their tenth album, 'Ghosts of Download', to follow in Autumn 2013.
